Coldest Day of the Year

Who says you can’t wear skirts on the coldest days of the year? This is the perfect winter skirt. It’s a red velvet skirt from Banggood and it’s been such a great addition to my closet. Most people would call me crazy for wearing a skirt in the middle of a Canadian winter but I just couldn’t resist wearing this skirt.

I feel like I was pretty sensible in the rest of my outfit. I paired it with thick fleece lined tights. Fun fact: I got these tights from Ardene and I know Ardene isn’t exactly known for good quality items but I couldn’t have been more impressed with these tights. They are so cozy and warm and the best part, they are five for 10 dollars. What?! Yes, you heard right. I also had a coupon for an extra 15% off so I got this pair for $1.70. How can you pass this up?

Anyways, back to the outfit. I wore a slouchy knit sweater on top from Billabong. I’m sure you’ve noticed but I wear this sweater with practically every outfit. It’s probably my most worn item.

As for shoes, I recently got these booties from Target. I’ve never really shopped at Target but I fell in love with these shoes and they were on clearance. Yes, I just can’t resist a good sale, it’s a problem.

As usual, I added a bunch of jewelry to spice up my outfit. Have I ever left the house without jewelry on? Nope, I don’t think so. I wore this gorgeous necklace from Presh by Nicole Apostoli. I will be doing a whole review on Presh later on, but for now, I just couldn’t resist including this necklace in this outfit. It is called the Fossel Pendant and I love how it ties together the whole outfit with it’s multi-metal duo chains. It’s stunning.

Last but not least, I added on a multitude of rings. What can I say? I like rings. My favorite is this talon-like claw ring from Loft 82- they changed their name to Noul… I don’t know how I feel about that. The chain ring is also from Noul and the cross is from Forever 21.

Tay’s Thoughts- EOS Lip Balms

I have been meaning to write a post on EOS lip balms for a while now. So here I am, finally doing it. I should give you a bit history first though. 3 and a half years ago, EOS lip balms didn’t even exist in Canada. They were extremely popular in the US but alas none could be found in Canada… Until we discovered a little clothing store called RW&Co sold them. We were desperate find them, but they sold out almost immediately every time new stock came in. I remember me and my friends phoning every day, asking if they had gotten any in. Finally, they did, and my first EOS lip balm was born. It was the Honeydew Honeysuckle one. Soon after, Walmart and Shopper’s drug mart started carrying them so my collection grew and grew.

There was just one problem. I hate EOS lip balms. I know what you’re thinking… “Taylor, you have 8 lip balms that you supposedly hate?!” Yes, yes I do. But here’s the thing. The only thing I hate about them is the actual balm. I find then extremely unmoisturizing and a hard consistency, I like lip balms that just melt onto my lips. These do absolutely nothing for my dry, cracked lips. Now back to the important question, why do I have eight of them? I find the packaging and appearance completely adorable. Yes, I am judging the book by its cover. Plus, the scents are so yummy. Summer fruit, vanilla bean, sweet mint… How could I pass those up? And I do occasionally use these. As you can see by the photos, they don’t just sit in my room untouched. However, I only reach for these when I just need a quick swipe of something under my lipstick, not looking for extreme comfort and hydration.

That being said, if you don’t have particularly dry lips, these would probably work find for you. But, let’s be honest, who doesn’t choose their lip balms based on adorability factor? And since these are the cutest lip balms around, go pick up a few.

Flannels are my Life

I like to think flannels are the best invention ever designed. I guess they’re not really inventions, but what I’m sure of is that they’re perfect in every way imaginable. And this flannel from Living Doll LA is no exception. I feel like this flannel was made for me. It combines the traditional comfort of a flannel but also adds a little extra girlyness to my style with the rhinestones on the tips of the collar and pockets. How adorable is that?! Plus the style is a bit more fitted so it can easily be dressed up a bit more than a regular oversized flannel. I also love the colours in this flannel. It is a plaid with red, blue and green so it’s a great festive piece for the holidays but is also easily transitioned into January, February, and March aka winter.

I opted to style this flannel in a more funky, quirky way. I tucked it into my leather skirt (which is surprisingly such a versatile piece by the way) and added a pair of grey tights for warmth because it’s clearly not the season for bare legs yet. To accessorize, I added a fun statement necklace that peaks out from my collar and thew on a few of my favourite rings. Then to also highlight a more edgy style, I added my new beanie from Zara (it’s actually from the kids section oops) and my spiky combat boots. I really like how this outfit turned out. It’s not my usual style but I like how comfy I was but also how fun this outfit is.

Be sure to check out Living Doll LA for more cute clothes (I know they have a cute more flannels in stock, just sayin’). I also did a post with a gorgeous red velvet dress so check that out as well!

Tay’s Thoughts- Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +

Although the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + has been out for several months now, I’ve been holding off doing a review. I really wanted to gather my full opinion about it before I mentioned any word of the new formula. Growing up, I always he noticed the gel formula was so much more popular than the lotion. And after trying both I could see why. The gel is a much more lightweight texture and oil-free so it is much more suited for oily skin. I never liked the formula of the old lotion. It felt too heavy, almost sticky on my skin. I have combination skin- cheeks tend to be a bit more dry with my t-zone being normal or a little oily on some days. However, I’m very happy to say that Clinique really fixed these problems in the new formula. They’re still very similar with the only noticeable difference being the texture. The lotion + feels very similar to the gel now! with the exception of being a mineral oil-based creamier texture. Also, the lotion + aims to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier helping it stay hydrated and keeping that moisture locked within the skin. That results in my cheeks feeling more comfortable rather than the tight, flaky feeling I was used to. I was also surprised this didn’t lead to breakouts on my t-zone or excess oil. This lotion was great at moisturizing my cheeks while controlling the excess oil. So much better than the original in my opinion!

However, I still think this product has a few limitations. I highly think this lotion should only be in the hands of the younger generation. It has no ingredients to help anti aging or really combat anything for that matter. It’s a really basic moisturizer whose only benefit is moisturizing the skin which it does effectively do. So teens, if you’re looking for a simple moisturizer, this one will be perfect,  but I would advise adults to stay away from it, Clinique has other moisturizers like the Even Better, Youth Surge, and Repair Wear creams.

Jeans Aren’t So Bad

Jeans and I have never really gotten along until I came across this pair from Articles of Society and my oh my am I in love. These jeans are literally perfect. They are the style, Mya, in a deep oxblood color which I think is so gorgeous for Fall and Winter. They are a coated denim so they have a shiny waxy finish, almost like a leather. They are such a nice twist on a basic denim. I love the fit of these as well. Because they are coated, they don’t stretch out too much so they’re not going to get baggy in weird places throughout the day which is one of my pet peeves with regular denim. And surprisingly, these are still very comfy. I thought they would be stiff, but they mold to your body and aren’t constricting at all!

I paired these jeans with a cream button up tunic and a fun floral infinity scarf that has some of the deep red color in it to compliment the pants. Then I added my favorite booties, and a Celine-inspired purse in neutral colors. For accessories, I wore my new wrap bracelet from Presh that goes perfectly with the jeans.

Articles of Society has many other style of jeans available, including black coated denim and gorgeous emerald jeans so go check them out!

2013 Makeup Bag Favorites

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder (buy here)- I recently picked up this powder after hearing everyone rave about it. Those people definitely weren’t exaggerating. This product. is such a great setting powder, it keeps my face matte all day without making me look cakey or overly powdery.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (buy here)- Long story short, this foundation is amazing. I did a full length review on this so go read that:

Dr. Hauschka (buy here)- I don’t wear a concealer on a day to day basis because I find it makes me break out more but on special occasions or if I have a really obvious pimple, I’ll use this one. I love that it has medical ingredients because it helps clear the blemishes while covering them.

Benefit Rockateur Boxed Powder (buy here)- I also did a full review on this so go check that out to hear my thoughts:

Maybelline Dream Sun Bronzer (buy here)- I’ve never really been into bronzer but I love how this one has so many different shades in it so I can customize just how much color I want on my face for that day.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Dollface (buy here)- This will forever be my favorite blush. I don’t have one bad thing to say about it. It stays on all day, has just the right amount of pigmentation, and it’s the prettiest color ever!

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in RSVP (buy here)- Mine is starting to dry up but this is such a pretty base. It makes any eyeshadow more vibrant and helps it not crease throughout the day.

Mac Eyeshadow in All That Glitters (buy here)- This is the only mac eyeshadow I own. Shocking right? It’s such a gorgeous color and is so versatile for every eye look.

Smashbox Always Sharp Kohl Liner in Nude (buy here)- This eyeliner is amazing. I love to line my waterline with a nude color to open them up but it’s usually so hard to find the perfect pencil liner. However, this one sharpens itself when you twist on the cap and it’s waterproof so it stays on for so long!

Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara (buy here)- This has been my favorite mascara of 2013. It works so great with my lashes. Like it’s name states, the bristles help eliminate any clumps while adding volume and length. Read my review here:

Nuxe Lipbalm (buy here)- This is my favorite lip balm and the only one that I keep repurchasing. I use it up super quick but it’s totally worth it. It helps keep my lips moisturized and smooth. Read my review here:

Covergirl Smoochies Lip Balm in Luv U (buy here)- I love this tinted lip balm! It goes on so smooth and I find it is actually moisturizing! Plus, the color is gorgeous! It’s just a medium toned pink so it’s perfect for everyday wear.

Tay’s Thoughts- Wet N’ Wild Palette

I haven’t bought eyeshadow in a long time but when I saw this Wet n Wild Palette, I couldn’t resist. And I’m so glad I decided to pick it up! I feel like Wet n Wild makeup is often overlooked because people view it as not the best quality. However, I totally disagree! I have never tried any of their other makeup, but their eyeshadows are so pigmented and smooth! They go on wonderfully and are easily blended.

This palette is in the shade, Comfort Zone. It comes with eight shadows, all shimmery colors. I wish there were some mattes but that’s honestly the only downside. There is a wonderful mix of shades. I love how there are both neutrals and a few wearable colors. My favorites are the silver taupe color (top right) and the gorgeous brown-blue duo-chrome (bottom right) that reminds me of the Blue Brown Pigment from Mac.

Oh, and did I mention, this palette is only $3.99?! Yup, that’s right. This is basically the best palette ever. There is so many different eye looks you can create from this palette, anywhere from a basic neutral eye to a dark smoky look. This palette has everything you need in it for a complete eye look! It’s perf!

Tay’s Thoughts- Dior Addict Gloss

As I have said before, I have never been a huge fan of lip glosses. I own plenty but they always seem to go untouched. Apart from the Benefit ultra plush glosses, I always avoided lip glosses. But these Dior Addict Glosses can now be included in the lip glosses that I actually like. These are amazing glosses! They are a non-sticky formula which is a must for me, but they also aren’t too slippery so they don’t slide right off your lips. They come in three different formulas- Sparkly, Pearly and Pure and there are dozens of gorgeous shades too!

I have three of the shades. #664, Fairy Pink, was my very first Dior Addict Gloss and it is the “pure” formula. It is a mid-toned hot pink with no shimmer. It goes on fairly opaque. It is probably my favorite out of the three. Next is #257, Venus, is a pale pink color and is the “sparkling” formula. This is such a great color to wear on it’s own for a more natural look or to layer over any lip color to add sparkle and shine. Lastly, is #643, Diablotine, which is a glittery coral-pink. This is also part of the “sparkling” formula and has gold sparkles in it that compliment the melon color beautifully. I love wearing this shade in the summer.

All in all, these are definitely amazing lip glosses. Both the formula and color is amazing and how gorgeous is this packaging?!

Am I Jennifer Lawrence yet?

To be honest, I feel like I just stepped out of a Hunger Games movie. What can I say, I’m basically Jennifer Lawrence. And makeup is my only weapon in the Hunger Games. No but seriously, that’s what this tee says. Wear your make-up like a weapon. How cute is that?!

Graphic tees like this one from Hips and Hair are my favorite things in the world. I can dress them up and down and they are so easy to style. I went for a very casual look today. I did not feel like wearing uncomfortable clothes so I didn’t. This tee is great to wear with leggings because it has an oversized longer style so I paired it with these cool tie-dyed velvet leggings from Urban Outfitters. I then layered my favorite Vero Moda vest over the top but left it unzipped to show off the design of the tee. To complete the “grunge” look (it really isn’t grungy but compared to my usual style, this is as edgy as it’s gonna get), I wore my school backpack (how cute is it?!) and my fuzzy beanie so I didn’t have to put effort into my hair. Effortless outfit? Check.

Hips and Hair have many other cute tee shirts in other designs and styles so go check them out! Their graphics are so cute and edgy!
