A More Stylish 20 Year Old

This was my first outfit as a twenty year old. Don’t I look like a real adult about to take on the world? Why yes. Yes I do.

I guess I should start this post off by stating that I have some of the world’s best friends. They all teamed up together to get my this gorgeous Marc Jacobs scarf for my twentieth birthday. (Whoa, I still can’t believe I’m twenty. This is crazy.) I didn’t know I could a love a scarf this much. It’s absolutely perfect in each and every way. I don’t think I’ll ever take it off. We should probably rename this blog “When I’m Marc” because I’m not getting older and changing anymore. I will just consistently and constantly be Marc.

Your eyes might have drifted from my scarf to the gorgeous purse hanging from my arm. This was a birthday present from my favorite gal, Emily.  There is quite the story behind this purse. So, this bag is from Shoppers Drug Mart where both me and Emily work. I have been eyeing this bag for as long as I can remember. I never had the will to splurge on it however. And then, the day before my birthday, I sold the last one to a customer and I cried. I thought I would never see that bag again. But suddenly my birthday came around the corner and alas, guess what Emily had in her hands. This purse.

So friends, thank you for the wonderful and thoughtful presents. You know me way too well. But also, thank you for being the best friends a girl could ask for. You made my birthday so special and I am so lucky to call this year the best birthday yet. It was such a wonderful birthday weekend filled with laughter, tears, surprises and me almost dying. (I may or may not have ate a silica gel packet, it’s a long story.)

Colour Pop Eyeshadows Review

1-IMG_3139 1-IMG_3152 1-IMG_3154 1-IMG_3159 1-IMG_3163 1-IMG_3167 1-IMG_3170 1-IMG_3175 1-IMG_3210

I have heard such great things about these eyeshadows from Colour Pop but I was never quite convinced. How good could an eyeshadow really be after all? Aren’t they all the same?

NO. The answer is definitely no. These eyeshadows from Colour Pop are like no other shadows. Everything about them is perfect. Let’s talk about the formula first. These are creme-like powders that have an elastic-like texture. This means there isn’t any fallout and they apply beautifully. Plus, they last super long and don’t even crease throughout the day. Next, let’s talk about the pigmentation. Oh my goodness, are these ever pigmented. Take a look at those swatches, are those not the most beautiful colors you’ve ever seen? From left to right is ‘I Heart This’ which is a gorgeous light taupe. It is perfect for all over the lid. Next is ‘Desert’ which is a warm medium brown. ‘On The Rocks’ is a deep bronze with purple and gold glitter. I love this one for deepening up the crease. Next is ‘Amaze’, which is the perfect rose gold. I think golds with pink undertones are the most flattering colors! To the right of that one is ‘Meow’, which is such a cool color! It is a tie-dye shadow with pink, purple, and gunmetal colors that all combine to produce one gorgeous shade! Lastly, ‘Envy’ is a deep black with tons of purple glitter! It is the perfect color to line my eyes with!

Colour Pop has so many beautiful shades of eyeshadows and I think I need every single one. I’m not even exaggerating. And did I mention the price? Each eyeshadow is only $5. For quality like this, that’s practically, no definitely, a steal.

On The Hunt

1-IMG_1456 1-IMG_1461 1-IMG_1468 1-IMG_1477 1-IMG_1483 1-IMG_1488 1-IMG_1500 1-IMG_1508 1-IMG_1521 1-IMG_1525 1-IMG_1534

I have been on the hunt for a leather vest for quite some time now. After seeing this one at Noul, I knew I needed one in my closet right away, but I was not prepared for the $130 price tag so it became my mission to find one for cheaper. I am sad to admit that my mission was not successful. Every leather vest I found was nowhere near as nice as this Noul one so my heart told me to just splurge and buy it. Yolo right? Uh huh. So now, here it sits in my closet. I’m so glad I decided to buy it. It’s such a staple piece and I believe I’ll be wearing it for many seasons to come. Today, I paired it with one of my favourite dresses: this dropped waist dress from Forever 21. I love the girly and edgy silhouettes paired together. I feel like that is where my style is evolving to.

As always, I spiced my outfit up with my accessories. I am absolutely obsessed with this necklace. I picked it up from Topshop when I was in Calgary on my road trip. Who knew Chinook Centre had a Topshop? It was so beautiful. If you know me, you know I don’t like to buy jewelry anymore because of the abundance of it sitting in my room. But lately, I’ve been noticing my ratio of gold to silver necklace is way off, so I decided I needed this necklace in my life. It’s mainly silver with gold accents so it allows me to effortlessly mixed metals in my outfit. For bracelets today, I kept it simple with this Urban Outfitters bracelet that I seem to be wearing everyday. My brother even noticed as he took these pictures, telling me he’s already taken shots of this bracelet countless times; that sass. I wore my Marc Jacobs watch like always but watch out! (no pun intended) I’ve recently added a new watch to my collection so I’m sure you’ll be seeing that one lots instead now!

When I was putting together this outfit, I came to a roadblock when it was time to pick out shoes. Originally, I though the Steve Madden Nonstop Booties would have looked perfect with this look, but alas, I don’t own those shoes. I’ve heard they are super unpractical and uncomfortable anyways so I don’t know if they’ll ever have a place in my closet. But then I remembered these shoes. I picked these up from The Bay a month ago and I’ve only worn them once. I completely forgot I owned them. However, I really like how they look with this outfit! And can we just talk about my toes for a second? I went for my first pedicure yesterday and it was magical. I got gel polish so hopefully my toes will look this beautiful for the rest of the summer. Speaking of summer, I only have a month and a half of it left. UGH.

ImPress Manicure

I have always had the ugliest nails. I was a nail biter when I was a kid so I blame that as the reason why my natural nails are so short and stubby. Alas, I am always looking for new nail products to make my nails look a bit prettier since regular nail polish doesn’t always cut it.

I tried out the imPRESS Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails today and I thought they were a very cool product. They are super easy to apply. All you need to do is find 10 out of the 24 nails that fit your nails best, peel off the plastic tab and press on to your nails. And voila! All done! The only issue I found with these nails is that they are too long for me. I have super small nail beds so these nails hung off the end of my finger quite a bit. For someone that is only used to short nails, these will require quite some getting used to. Other than that, I think these nails work great! They are very durable and I have no trouble believing they will last up to a week!

They style I tried out today is called Hottie and they are a magenta base with fun neon and silver glitter designs. They are great for summer and I am planning on wearing these to work tonight to spice up my all black outfit!

I also received a really pretty green-purple duochrome set of nails that I will be trying out and blogging about at a later date so stay posted for that!

Tay’s Thoughts- Benefit Big Easy

Now that the warmer weather has finally hit Edmonton (it was literally snowing last week), it’s time to switch up my foundations. During the winter, I wear my Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation but that one is way too oily to wear during the summer. It just sweats right off. So I’ve been switching to the new Benefit Big Easy ‘foundation’. It’s not really a foundation but it’s a bit more than a BB cream so I’m not sure what to call it.

This foundation is such a cool product and I was so excited to receive it at my Benefit training. There are so many awesome features about it. First, it is a liquid to powder formula so it can be applied easily but then it transforms into a more matte, smooth finish. You don’t have to worry about having your face look oily throughout the day. Also, this foundation contains SPF 35! SPF is one of the most important things to have on your face in the summer (and throughout the whole year for that matter). Thirdly, this product custom matches to your skin shade. I wear shade #02 light but I can also wear #01, #03, and even #04 if I was a tiny bit tanner. That means you could wear this same foundation all year long even if you tend to tan more in the summer. As for coverage, this foundation has less coverage than a typical foundation but more coverage than a BB Cream. However, I find that the Benefit Big Easy has the perfect amount of coverage for the summer. If you want more coverage, just layer this with your favorite concealer.

I was very impressed with the Benefit Big Easy foundation. It’s a super innovative product that doesn’t seem to compare with anything else! I think this is the perfect Summer product!

Tay’s Thoughts- Covergirl Smoochies

Tinted lip balms have become so popular lately but I feel like many just miss the mark. However, these Covergirl Smoochies lip balms are amazing, yay for fabulous lip products!

I have two of the twelve colors available but I totally want to go pick up some more. First, is Tweet Me, a cherry red color. Next, is Luv U, a mauve mid-tone pink. Both colors are a very moisturizing formula with sheer but still pigmented color payoff. These remind me a lot of the Maybelline Baby Lips. The Tweet Me Smoochies is almost an exact dupe for the Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me, except it has a less obnoxious smell (I hate the smell of artificial cherries). The Covergirl Smoochies in Luv U is definitely my favorite of the two. It is such a wearable color and it looks great with almost every makeup look! Plus, I find the formula decently moisturizing which is very uncommon for my dry lips. As for scent/flavour, the Smoochies remind me a lot of BonneBell lip smackers. It’s a very fruity scent, not my least favorite but not a fantastic smell either. These are kind of like the grown up version of Lipsmackers. We all have to grow up sometime. Other than that, I love the Covergirl Smoochies and you probably will too okay? Okay.

Tay’s Thoughts- Dior Rouge Serum

I’ve been a big fan of Dior’s lip products for a while now. I have always loved their Dior Addict Lip Glow, Lipstick, and Glosses but I never had a change to try out the Dior Serum de Rouge. For all you non-Frenchies, we’ll just call it Dior Rouge Serum. This lipstick is basically the combination of the Dior Addict Lip Stick and a serum and a lip balm. It’s genius.

Mine is in the color 675 and it’s the perfect shade. I usually go for bright pinks. This one is a bit more wearable than my trusted hot pinks but it’s still bright enough to not blend in with my pale skin and wash me out. This product goes on so nicely. The formula supposedly has 10 times more concentrated skincare ingredients than classical lipsticks, providing moisture, volume and smoothing benefits for your lips. It’s is practically skincare and makeup all in one! I love it. It’s so moisturizing on my lips, while still being pigmented. It’s such a unique product!

Tay’s Thoughts- Clinique Superprimer

I feel like I’m the only one who hates Silicone based primers. I absolutely hate that rubbery, smooth texture that everyone else describes as “soft”. I don’t understand the appeal. However, the Clinique Superprimer Universal Face Primer is oil-free so it has a much more lightweight. It feels more like a moisturizer than a primer which I absolutely love. But don’t worry, it still does everything that a primer aims to do! It helps your makeup stay on all day and keeps the oil away. (That rhymed!) Plus, it helps your makeup glide on much easier and makes it blend right into your skin! It really does make a difference on your foundation!

If you are looking for something extra in your primer, check out Clinique’s other superprimers. There are ones that color correct for dullness, redness, sallowness, and discolorations.

Tay’s Thoughts- EOS Lip Balms

I have been meaning to write a post on EOS lip balms for a while now. So here I am, finally doing it. I should give you a bit history first though. 3 and a half years ago, EOS lip balms didn’t even exist in Canada. They were extremely popular in the US but alas none could be found in Canada… Until we discovered a little clothing store called RW&Co sold them. We were desperate find them, but they sold out almost immediately every time new stock came in. I remember me and my friends phoning every day, asking if they had gotten any in. Finally, they did, and my first EOS lip balm was born. It was the Honeydew Honeysuckle one. Soon after, Walmart and Shopper’s drug mart started carrying them so my collection grew and grew.

There was just one problem. I hate EOS lip balms. I know what you’re thinking… “Taylor, you have 8 lip balms that you supposedly hate?!” Yes, yes I do. But here’s the thing. The only thing I hate about them is the actual balm. I find then extremely unmoisturizing and a hard consistency, I like lip balms that just melt onto my lips. These do absolutely nothing for my dry, cracked lips. Now back to the important question, why do I have eight of them? I find the packaging and appearance completely adorable. Yes, I am judging the book by its cover. Plus, the scents are so yummy. Summer fruit, vanilla bean, sweet mint… How could I pass those up? And I do occasionally use these. As you can see by the photos, they don’t just sit in my room untouched. However, I only reach for these when I just need a quick swipe of something under my lipstick, not looking for extreme comfort and hydration.

That being said, if you don’t have particularly dry lips, these would probably work find for you. But, let’s be honest, who doesn’t choose their lip balms based on adorability factor? And since these are the cutest lip balms around, go pick up a few.

Tay’s Thoughts- Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +

Although the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + has been out for several months now, I’ve been holding off doing a review. I really wanted to gather my full opinion about it before I mentioned any word of the new formula. Growing up, I always he noticed the gel formula was so much more popular than the lotion. And after trying both I could see why. The gel is a much more lightweight texture and oil-free so it is much more suited for oily skin. I never liked the formula of the old lotion. It felt too heavy, almost sticky on my skin. I have combination skin- cheeks tend to be a bit more dry with my t-zone being normal or a little oily on some days. However, I’m very happy to say that Clinique really fixed these problems in the new formula. They’re still very similar with the only noticeable difference being the texture. The lotion + feels very similar to the gel now! with the exception of being a mineral oil-based creamier texture. Also, the lotion + aims to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier helping it stay hydrated and keeping that moisture locked within the skin. That results in my cheeks feeling more comfortable rather than the tight, flaky feeling I was used to. I was also surprised this didn’t lead to breakouts on my t-zone or excess oil. This lotion was great at moisturizing my cheeks while controlling the excess oil. So much better than the original in my opinion!

However, I still think this product has a few limitations. I highly think this lotion should only be in the hands of the younger generation. It has no ingredients to help anti aging or really combat anything for that matter. It’s a really basic moisturizer whose only benefit is moisturizing the skin which it does effectively do. So teens, if you’re looking for a simple moisturizer, this one will be perfect,  but I would advise adults to stay away from it, Clinique has other moisturizers like the Even Better, Youth Surge, and Repair Wear creams.
